Pulse Industries Welcomes Three Renowned Scientists to Accelerate Innovation in Water and Oil Treatment

January 19, 2025

MARIANNA, FL – Pulse Industries, the first company to mass produce electron-beam linear accelerators, is transforming how civilization tackles critical challenges in water purification and oil refinement. By combining decades of proven science with innovative applications, Pulse is pioneering scalable, high- performance solutions for municipal and industrial needs. From eliminating toxic ‘forever chemicals’ in water to refining heavy crude oil into cleaner, sustainable fuels, Pulse is making advanced technology more accessible to address the world’s most pressing challenges.

To advance its mission, Pulse is proud to announce the addition of three distinguished scientists to its leadership team: Dr. Mohamad Al-Sheikhly, Dr. Thomas D. Waite, and Dr. William Cooper. These world- renowned experts join Pulse’s Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Eric Burgett, to expand the company’s capacity for delivering transformative solutions.

“This is a defining moment for Pulse,” said Dr. Eric Burgett, Founder and CTO of Pulse Industries. “By bringing together some of the brightest minds in radiation science, water chemistry, and environmental engineering, we are creating a powerhouse team capable of driving the next wave of innovation. Together, we’ll accelerate our work in water treatment and oil refining, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for a cleaner, healthier planet.”

Dr. Mohamad Al-Sheikhly: Advancing High-Energy Oxidation for Oil Refinement and Water Purification

Dr. Al-Sheikhly, Professor and Director of the Radiation Facilities at the University of Maryland, has led groundbreaking research in radiation chemistry, materials science, and environmental applications, with significant contributions to both oil refinement and water treatment. His pioneering work applies high- energy oxidation processes, which use controlled radiation to generate reactive species like hydroxyl radicals that break down persistent contaminants, including pharmaceuticals, industrial byproducts, and microplastics.

In water treatment, Dr. Al-Sheikhly has advanced techniques for radiation-induced advanced oxidation, a process that catalyzes pollutant degradation and enables chemical-free disinfection. These methods safely inactivate pathogens without creating harmful byproducts, making them both effective and environmentally sustainable.

In oil refinement, Dr. Al-Sheikhly contributes to Pulse’s electron cold cracking technology, an advanced method for transforming heavy, sour crude oil into cleaner, lighter hydrocarbons. By combining his expertise in radiation chemistry and scalable industrial processes, he bridges fundamental science with real-world applications, enhancing Pulse’s impact across both industries.

Dr. Thomas D. Waite: Integrating Ferrate Chemistry for Enhanced Water Purification

Dr. Waite, President and Founder of Ferrate Solutions, is a pioneer in the use of ferrate chemistry for advanced water treatment. His groundbreaking work in removing pharmaceuticals, pathogens, and other contaminants complements Pulse’s efforts to tackle persistent pollutants. By integrating ferrate chemistry with Pulse’s electron-beam systems, Dr. Waite will drive the development of more effective and scalable solutions for municipal and industrial water purification.

Dr. William Cooper: Scaling Urban Water Solutions for Global Impact

Dr. Cooper, Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Irvine, is a leading authority in urban water systems and environmental engineering. As the former Director of the Urban Water Research Center, he has dedicated his career to addressing the challenges of urbanization on water resources. At Pulse, Dr. Cooper will focus on integrating the company’s technologies into large-scale urban water systems, ensuring that advanced purification methods are both efficient and accessible to densely populated areas worldwide.

A Unified Vision for Sustainability

With expertise spanning radiation science, water chemistry, and environmental systems, this expanded team strengthens Pulse’s ability to address critical challenges in water and oil treatment. Their collaborative work will enhance the company’s core initiatives, including solutions for water purification and electron cold cracking technology, which revolutionizes petroleum refining.

“These appointments underscore our commitment to assembling a team capable of delivering real- world impact,” added Dr. Burgett. “By combining cutting-edge technology with scientific excellence, we’re poised to lead the way in building a more sustainable future.”
